LeiLa & Maxene taLk about change

YES! (Philippines) - - Silka -

At a lunch organized by pHCare, the local feminine care brand, at the Century City Mall in Makati last June 21, actresses Maxene Magalona and Leila Alcasid spoke to the media about how excited they are with the changes that have happened—and are about to happen—in their lives.

Maxene Magalona, who’s engaged to be married to musician Robby Mananquil sometime next year, said she’s more excited than nervous about the “new chapter” in her life: “I’m happy and excited. No ounce of doubt. I’ve never been more sure. Because it’s him and he’s my best friend.” She added: “At 31, I’m more secure with myself.”

Leila Alcasid, who moved from Australia to the Philippines last January to try her luck in local showbiz, said she’s still adjusting to her new life here in the home country of her dad, singer-songwriter-actor Ogie Alcasid: “I have to watch a lot of teleseryes and movies to learn about showbiz, the local celebrities. It was a lot to take in, but I felt comfortable very quickly. I was lucky enough that I didn’t have trouble adjusting or anything like that.”

Whatever changes Maxene and Leila might face in the future, you can bet that these two strong, beautiful, confident women will face them head-on.

Maxene Magalona considers her mom, talent manager Pia Magalona, her best friend. While she lets her mom have a say on certain aspects of her life, Max says that Pia knows when to keep her distance.

Max told YES! at the pHCare event: “I think it was how she always talked to us na parang she made us feel she’s there for us. Hindi niya kami kinukulit. When we see her, she gives us words of advice. But only when we’re together. When I’m feeling sad, that’s when I run to her. Pinapagalitan niya kami, pero she doesn’t judge us. She’s our best friend, tried and tested na ’yan.”

Leila Alcasid, here smiling for the camera with her best friend Mica Adriano, is grateful to her stepmom Regine Velasquez. Leila told YES!: “She understood how difficult it is for me to be away from my mom [Australian beauty queen Michelle van Eimeren]. She knows how close I am to my mom. When I got here, she kind of took on that mother role. And my mom super appreciates it.”
