Reading is one great passion of Saab Magalona-Bacarro. Small wonder then that she chose a library theme for the baby shower organized by the Aprica stroller brand in anticipation of the arrival in April of her fraternal twins with her husband Jim Bacarro.

The 29-year-old actress and blogger, whose parents are the late Pinoy rap music icon Francis Magalona and Francis’s widow Pia, grew up having books around the house and voraciously reading them.

“I didn’t care about going out and partying that much, which is not a bad thing,” she said during the baby shower. “Parang I was transported to different worlds because of those books that I’ve read.”

Last March 6, more than a month after the baby shower, Saab posted on her blog, spellsaab.com, a photo of her father Francis’s grave and, beside it, a patch of dug-up soil and a bunch of flowers (inset).

She then explained in her post, titled “Heartbroken But Hopeful,” that she lost her baby girl on February 8. She added that the remaining twin, her baby boy, was admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Unit after suffering from complications and undergoing surgery.

“That’s why we can only thank God for helping us get through the pain and lifting the anger from our hearts,” she wrote. “We thank you for your concern and we ask that you continue to pray for our family, especially for our angel and our baby boy.”

She noted that March 6 also marked Francis’s ninth death anniversary, and pointed out: “I know he will be looking after his apo.”

Saab Magalona-Bacarro hammed it up for the camera with her husband Jim Bacarro, the frontman of the indie rock band Cheats and a co-owner of the merchandise brand Linya-Linya. The actress felt that being pregnant with twins was twice the fun and the...

Saab’s mother Pia Magalona (standing) gifted Saab and Jim with three books by foreign authors: You Are My Sunshine by Jimmie Davis; When I Grow Up by Al Yankovic, aka Weird Al, the singer-songwriter of parody songs; and Learning to Be a Good Friend: A...

Flanking Saab are her good friends Candy Gamos (left) and Lauren Young. Candy, the vocalist of Cheats band, who’s also a radio deejay, and Lauren, a GMA actress who plays a major role in the drama series Contessa, hosted the program at the baby shower.
