MONTADO AND PGF BROUGHT THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP TO PORTUGAL
The Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, in Palmela, has regularly hosted the International Amateur Championships in Portugal, since 2011 for Men and since 2012 for Ladies.
The experience gained while organizing these events proved decisive for the decision by the
EGA (European Golf Association) to award the organization of its first amateur major, the European Ladies Amateur Team Championship, took place from 11 to 15 July 2017, at the hotel.
For Marco Andrade, the General Manager of the Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, "The success of our joint bid with the Portuguese Golf Federation (PGF) was also due to the existence of an on-site hotel. Being a team tournament, the EGA attributed great importance to the fact that players could be on the practice course or even at the starting tee 5 minutes after leaving their rooms. It's very convenient."
The existence of the Hotel signifies a great advantage, which is a transversal factor for the organization of large international events as well as for attracting the international golf/leisure market. Resorts are increasingly popular choices in this segment since they reduce or virtually eliminate the need to have transport to the golf course.
The experience accumulated over recent years while organizing the last seven and six Men's and Ladies' international championships, respectively, ensured that the Montado Hotel & Golf Resort was in a strong position when the tournament's location was decided.
