Quinta da Ria: Anniversary

GOLFE - - CLUB NEWS -

Quinta da Ria celebrated its 17th anniversary with the usual “Day One” tournament, with 80 players divided into 20 teams. The “Day One” always coincides with the birthday of the entrepreneur José F. Lisboa, who was the administrator of Quinta do Lago and founder of Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima (Algarve) and Montado (Palmela) Golf Courses and who saw the Portuguese bureaucracy stop one of his major projects. About 30 years ago Lisboa wanted to build a mega golf facility near Ourique, with a tour partner, and it would have been the future headquarters of the European Tour Qualification School. It failed because the autarchy’s authorization arrived ... 17 years later. The winning team, with 82 points, was made up of Miguel Gaspar, Andreas and Eyvind Grouff and Ronaldo da Silva. In second place were the team of Elisabeth and Henk Van Den Dool and Loes Henk Vooijs with 78. Special awards went to Marco Andrade, Sara Warren, Malcolm Yudd and Loes Vooijs.
