Bangladesh and Malaysia to sign agree­ment on de­fence train­ing

Bangladesh and Malaysia are pre­par­ing to sign a mem­o­ran­dum of un­der­stand­ing (MoU) on de­fence train­ing and tech­ni­cal co-op­er­a­tion, IANS re­ports from Dhaka.

The an­nounce­ment was made af­ter a meet­ing of Prime Min­is­ter Sheikh Hasina and vis­it­ing Malaysian De­fence Min­is­ter Mohamad bin Sabu at the Prime Min­is­ter’s Of­fice (PMO) in Dhaka on Thurs­day, the state-run news agency BSS re­ported.

Hasina’s press sec­re­tary Ih­sanul Karim said Hasina and the Malaysian min­is­ter dis­cussed the is­sues of co-op­er­a­tion in de­fence sec­tor, Ro­hingya and mat­ters of other mu­tual in­ter­ests.

The press sec­re­tary said Hasina laid im­por­tance on con­tin­ued in­ter­na­tional pres­sure on Myan­mar to take back Ro­hingyas. An is­land is be­ing de­vel­oped to re­lo­cate the Ro­hingyas to help them to live in a bet­ter con­di­tion.

Mohamad bin Sabu ap­pre­ci­ated the ges­ture of Bangladesh for giv­ing shel­ter to a large num­ber of dis­placed Ro­hingyas, say­ing his coun­try would con­tinue the sup­port for repa­tri­a­tion of the Myan­mar na­tion­als to their home­land.

Hasina also briefed the Malaysian min­is­ter on Bangladesh’s progress in the agri­cul­ture sec­tor, suc­cess of re­search in pro­duc­ing sa­line and drought-tol­er­ant rice and ar­chiv­ing self-suf­fi­ciency in food production.
