PUSH­ING FOR PEACE IN PALES­TINE

Top level meet­ings con­cern­ing the es­ca­lat­ing con­flict in Gaza were held in Doha, high­light­ing the State of Qatar's ef­forts to bring about a speedy res­o­lu­tion to the deadly siege, a few days af­ter a rare and lowkey po­lit­i­cal gath­er­ing or­gan­ised at the Em­bassy of Pales­tine.

A hand­out pic­ture re­leased by the Pales­tinian Pres­i­dent's of­fice shows Pales­tinian Pres­i­dent Mah­mud Ab­bas chat­ting with HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Ha­mad Al Thani dur­ing a meet­ing in Doha, on July 20, to dis­cuss a cease­fire for the war rag­ing in Gaza. On the same day, UN Sec­re­tary Gen­eral Ban Ki-Moon and Qatari For­eign Min­is­ter HE Sheikh Khalid bin Mo­ham­mad Al At­tiyah ad­dressed a joint press con­fer­ence about Is­raeli mil­i­tary op­er­a­tions in Gaza in Doha. Ki-Moon also met with Ab­bas who in­sisted on calling an im­me­di­ate ses­sion of the UN Se­cu­rity Coun­cil.
