Ac­cord­ing to a state­ment re­leased by the min­istry, re­cent mea­sures in­tro­duced by the Govern­ment of Qatar in­clude: Ap­proval by the State of Qatar's Cabi­net of the Wage Pro­tec­tion Sys­tem ( WPS), which will re­quire that com­pa­nies pay all wages elec­tron­i­cally via bank trans­fers and within seven days of the due date or else face pu­ni­tive ac­tion In­tro­duc­tion of an elec­tronic com­plaint sys­tem in English, Ara­bic, Urdu, Hindi, Tamil, Ben­gali and Nepali for ex­pa­tri­ate work­ers in Qatar Ap­proval by the State of Qatar's Cabi­net of changes to reg­u­la­tions gov­ern­ing work­ers' liv­ing con­di­tions, in­clud­ing an in­crease in the space al­lo­cated per worker from 4 square me­ters to 6 square me­ters, as well as im­prove­ments to the re­quire­ments for health and safety, such as the pro­vi­sion of a full-time, on­site nurse in ev­ery site that houses 100 work­ers Im­ple­men­ta­tion of summer work­ing hours, which pro­hibit out­door work be­tween 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., from mid-June through the end of Au­gust; with a ban of up to one month for com­pa­nies found in breach of the rules, as well as a hot­line num­ber for whistle­blow­ers, and pro­vi­sion for the pub­lic nam­ing and sham­ing of vi­o­la­tors Steps taken to in­crease the num­ber of safety in­spec­tors from 200 to 243 In­crease in in­spec­tions of labour ac­com­mo­da­tions and field vis­its made (4335 in May, 5083 in June) Clo­sure 33 sites for vi­o­la­tions of labour laws Build­ing new fa­cil­i­ties for ex­pa­tri­ate work­ers at In­dus­trial City and Barwa City; Com­pa­nies spe­cial­is­ing in prop­erty man­age­ment and leas­ing will run the two cities, which will even­tu­ally ac­com­mo­date ap­prox­i­mately 150,000 work­ers
