QATARI COL­LEC­TOR DIES

Sheikh Saud bin Mo­hammed Al Thani, the for­mer min­is­ter of cul­ture and her­itage in Qatar, who spent more than QR3.64 bil­lion ($1 bil­lion) of the soverign funds on art, died at the age of 48 last month at his London res­i­dence.

A cousin of the Emir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Ha­mad Al Thani, Sheikh Saud was in charge of de­vel­op­ing li­braries and mu­se­ums. Ac­cord­ing to The Art News­pa­per, be­tween 1997 and 2005, he spent more than any other in­di­vid­ual on art.
