Clearer de­tails emerged last month about the lon­gawaited Doha Fes­ti­val City, a mixed-use com­plex of­fer­ing re­tail, dining and en­ter­tain­ment ex­pe­ri­ences.

Cur­rently un­der devel­op­ment and set to open in the third quar­ter of 2016, the QR6.5 bil­lion project will be home to 550 shops, stores and out­lets, more than 100 restau­rants, cafés and food court stalls, a five-star ho­tel and con­ven­tion cen­tre, four en­ter­tain­ment at­trac­tions and 8000 car park spa­ces with an ef­fi­cient ve­hi­cle man­age­ment sys­tem. Doha Fes­ti­val City will also be the Qatar de­but of a myr­iad of luxury brands and flag­ship stores, in the same vein as the first IKEA store in the coun­try which opened in 2013. The mall will be home to Qatar's first Har­vey Ni­chols depart­ment store, a Vox 4D cinema com­plex, a full-size Mono­prix hy­per­mar­ket, among many other new of­fer­ings, it was an­nounced last month. The City will be con­structed in ac­cor­dance with the Qatar Sus­tain­abil­ity As­sess­ment Sys­tem (QSAS) green build­ing stan­dards and 80% of the mall's 244,000 sq.m. of to­tal gross leasable area is al­ready com­mit­ted, ac­cord­ing to a state­ment.
