POW­ER­ING GAZA

Sev­eral me­dia re­ports sug­gest that Qatar is in talks with Is­rael about link­ing the Gaza Strip with a nat­u­ral gas pipe­line, while there are con­flict­ing re­ports on how Is­rael is re­act­ing to this plan.

Qatari en­voy Muham­mad Al Ah­madi is re­port­edly in talks with Is­raeli author­i­ties to con­sider link­ing Gaza Strip's sole power sta­tion with an LNG pipe­line and equip­ping it to gen­er­ate enough power to al­le­vi­ate the sit­u­a­tion in Gaza which cur­rently ex­pe­ri­ences short­ages for more than 14 hours a day. Qatar has pledged to fund the in­fras­truc­ture to build the pipe­line which will cost $10 mil­lion. Re­port­edly there are also talks with pri­vate Is­raeli so­lar power com­pa­nies to con­struct so­lar power fields in Is­raeli ter­ri­tory to pro­duce 100 megawatts for Gaza's use.
