SHAKE UP IN THE CAB­I­NET

The Emiri Di­wan an­nounced ma­jor changes in a num­ber of min­istry port­fo­lios which sees many of the old guard be­ing re­placed with newer faces and the con­sol­i­da­tion of sev­eral min­istries in or­der to stream­line op­er­a­tions. It has been nearly two and a half years since the old cab­i­net was sworn in.

The most prom­i­nent change was the trans­fer of the For­eign Min­istry port­fo­lio to HE Sheikh Mo­hamed bin Ab­dul­rah­man Al Thani. The for­mer min­is­ter HE Dr Khalid Al Attiyah is now the Min­is­ter of State for De­fense Affairs, a po­si­tion for­merly held by Maj. Gen. Ha­mad bin Ali Al Attiyah. HE Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali has been given the post of Min­is­ter of Cul­ture and Sports (com­bin­ing the min­istries of Cul­ture, Arts and Her­itage, and Youth and Sports). Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of Ha­mad Med­i­cal Cor­po­ra­tion HE Dr Hanan Mo­hamed Al Kuwari has taken over as the Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Health, re­plac­ing HE Ab­dul­lah bin Khalid Al Qah­tani; HE Jas­sim Seif Ahmed Al Su­laiti who was pre­vi­ously the Min­is­ter of Trans­port has now been asked to head a con­sol­i­dated Min­istry of Trans­port and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions. The Min­istry of La­bor and So­cial Affairs has been com­bined with the Min­istry of Ad­min­is­tra­tive De­vel­op­ment, to be headed by HE Dr Issa Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi; HE Mo­hamed bin Ab­dul­lah Al Ru­maihi has been ap­pointed the Min­is­ter of Mu­nic­i­pal­ity and En­vi­ron­ment, also a new min­istry. The other min­is­ter­ies re­main un­changed.
