Qatar De­vel­op­ment Bank has started the year with two an­nounce­ments that prom­ise to help Qatari SMEs grow both lo­cally and in­ter­na­tion­ally.

Build­ing on the mo­men­tum of a very pro­duc­tive 2015, QDB an­nounced two new projects in quick suc­ces­sion. The first one was the first Govern­ment Pro­cure­ment and Con­tract­ing Con­fer­ence & Ex­hi­bi­tion – Moushtarayat – which is sched­uled to take place for three days from March 8 to 10. The event aims at open­ing new op­por­tu­ni­ties for in­ter­ac­tion be­tween lo­cal SMEs and stake­hold­ers, and strength­en­ing co­op­er­a­tion be­tween the pri­vate and pub­lic sec­tor. The bank also an­nounced the Fran­chise Pro­ject, through which they plan to take at least ten lo­cal SMEs spe­cial­is­ing in econ­omy, education, man­u­fac­tur­ing and ser­vices, as well as food and bev­er­ages sec­tors, to five coun­tries in the next three years. The pro­ject will pro­mote in­ter­na­tional growth for lo­cal brands by show­cas­ing suc­cess­ful fran­chise mod­els, in­clud­ing all the nec­es­sary strate­gic, le­gal con­sul­ta­tions, op­er­a­tional and mar­ket­ing tools pre­pared by ex­pe­ri­enced con­sul­tants to give the lo­cal Qatari brands, to ex­pand glob­ally.
