Af­ter Qatar wel­comed United Na­tions in­spec­tors last month to eval­u­ate the con­di­tions of mi­grant work­ers in the coun­try, the In­ter­na­tional Labour Or­gan­i­sa­tion (ILO) has re­leased a re­port rec­om­mend­ing that sanc­tions be with­held un­til the new spon­sor­ship laws have been im­ple­mented later this year. The ILO wants more time to de­cide whether Qatar should be sanc­tioned over al­le­ga­tions of “forced labour,” se­nior mem­bers have said.The de­ci­sion to wait an­other year comes af­ter the ILO re­leased a pre­lim­i­nary re­port where the ILO said it “ac­knowl­edges that the Gov­ern­ment of Qatar has taken a num­ber of con­crete mea­sures, but that at the same time many chal­lenges re­main.”
