At the World Sta­dium Congress held in Doha last month, over 300 global ex­perts in the fields of sta­dium op­er­a­tion, ar­chi­tec­ture, con­tracts, etc., gath­ered to dis­cuss the fu­ture of sports. Al Rayyan Sta­dium also won an award at the event.

The Supreme Com­mit­tee for De­liv­ery & Le­gacy (SCDL) was awarded the Sta­dium De­sign of the Year award for Al Rayyan Sta­dium at the 2016 World Sta­dium Congress in Doha. Ab­dulla Al Fe­hani, Al Rayyan Sta­dium Project Man­ager at the SC, re­ceived the award an­nounced by a judg­ing panel that in­cluded Sta­dia Mag­a­zine Edi­tor Matt Ross and Tim Brouw, Sta­dium and Tour­na­ment Con­sul­tant. “It is an hon­our to re­ceive this award on be­half of the Supreme Com­mit­tee and a re­con­fir­ma­tion of our com­mit­ment to ex­cel­lence in cre­at­ing in­no­va­tive de­signs which in­cor­po­rate the culture, her­itage and needs of the lo­cal com­mu­nity,” said Al Fe­hani af­ter the award cer­e­mony. At the event, held in part­ner­ship with the SCDL, over 300 ex­perts that in­cluded fed­er­a­tion di­rec­tors, gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials, renowned ath­letes and tour­na­ment stake­hold­ers, talked about is­sues of plan­ning and de­liv­er­ing a di­verse pipe­line of na­tional sta­dium projects, pub­lic pri­vate part­ner­ships in sta­di­ums, the fan of the fu­ture and lessons from other coun­tries like Brazil which is host­ing two mega events in the space of two years. The key­note ad­dress was de­liv­ered by Jur­gen Muller, Head of Plan­ning & In­fra­struc­ture and Head of 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar from FIFA. Sub­se­quent break­out ses­sions in­cluded in­ter­ac­tive round­table dis­cus­sions called “Locker Rooms” that fo­cused on macro is­sues rang­ing from sta­dium tech­nol­ogy and moder­nity to more tech­ni­cal con­cepts like tex­tile mem­branes, façades and le­gacy.
