Al­though Qatar Na­tional Day 2016 cel­e­bra­tions were can­celled across the state in solidarity with the peo­ple of Aleppo, Qatar Foun­da­tion's site Darb Al Saai brought thou­sands of vis­i­tors to en­gage in var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties and also do­nate for a cause.

Amas­sive fundrais­ing event in col­lab­o­ra­tion with five lead­ing Qatari char­i­ties was held by the Na­tional Day or­ga­niz­ing com­mit­tee at Darb Al Saai to help the peo­ple of Syria who are be­ing sub­jected to the worst kinds of re­pres­sion, tor­ture, dis­place­ment and geno­cide. More than QR250 mil­lion was raised in less than six hours to sup­port the Syr­i­ans in the be­sieged city of Aleppo. Over 100 boxes were in­stalled at the venue to re­ceive cash do­na­tions, be­sides spe­cial boxes for do­na­tions in kind. Jas­sim and Ha­mad bin Jas­sim Char­i­ta­ble Foun­da­tion (HBJ Foun­da­tion) do­nated QR50 mil­lion and the Min­istry of Awqaf and Is­lamic Af­fairs do­nated QR10 mil­lion, among the big­gest amounts re­ceived in the cam­paign. Among the com­pa­nies which do­nated QR5 mil­lion were Qatar De­vel­op­ment Bank, Oore­doo and Barwa Real Es­tate Com­pany. A num­ber of in­di­vid­u­als do­nated one to three mil­lion Qatari riyals. A num­ber of pri­vate and state-backed com­pa­nies and in­sti­tu­tions sup­ported the cam­paign with huge do­na­tions, in­clud­ing Qatar Cancer So­ci­ety, Ab­dul­lah Ab­dul­ghani & Bros. Co., Qatar So­ci­ety for Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of Spe­cial Needs, Ahli Bank and Qatar In­surance Com­pany.
