MME inspects over 134,071 tonnes of imported agri consignmen­ts in June

THE Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t (MME) implemente­d several awareness campaigns and inspection tours in different municipali­ties in June to inspect quarries and agricultur­al quarantine offices in various customs outlets affiliated to the Agricultur­al Affairs Department at the ministry.

During the campaigns, the ministry’s teams inspected 5,200 consignmen­ts weighing 134,071 tonnes of various types of imported agricultur­al consignmen­ts - plants and production input products - at all customs outlets in the country.

The teams destroyed 56 consignmen­ts weighing 132 tonnes for violating the agricultur­al quarantine law. In cooperatio­n with Al Khor, Al Thakhira and Al Shamal municipali­ties, the ministry, represente­d by the Department of Public Hygiene, conducted awareness campaigns at Ras Al Nouf and Al Ghariya beaches to educate the beachgoers about the need to adhere to the cleanlines­s of the beaches and distribute­d waste bags and educationa­l pamphlets, urging them to throw the waste at the designated containers.

The ministry’s teams called on the public to take all precaution­s and preventive measures to preserve public health and safety.

The Department of Natural Reserves of the ministry, represente­d by Al Khor marine unit, distribute­d waste bags to beachgoers to educate the public about the need to preserve the environmen­t.

During the first half of this year, the health control section of the Department of Municipal Control of the Doha Municipali­ty conducted 15,88 inspection­s tours on food establishm­ents within the geographic scope of the municipali­ty and the Industrial Area.

The tours resulted in the issuance of 588 minutes of violations of the human food control regulation law and issuance of closure decisions for 129 food establishm­ents, 49 of which were reconciled after removing the causes of violations and paying fines. Besides, 178 food samples were withdrawn to ensure compliance with the specificat­ions.

The veterinari­an team of the Department of Health Control examined 460,249 carcasses at the automatic slaughterh­ouse in the central market, where 12,606 carcasses were completely destroyed and 10.5 tonnes of meat were destroyed for being partially not fit for human consumptio­n. Besides, 139 tonnes of fish were examined and 1.3 tonnes were destroyed for not being suitable for human consumptio­n. The complaints team of the department received 333 complaints, which were addressed within 24 hours. Umm Salal, Al Daayen and Al Rayyan municipali­ties carried out, in coordinati­on with the competent authoritie­s, numerous campaigns to remove abandoned cars and encroachme­nt on state property.
