04. EXHIBITION — BASQUIAT: BOOM FOR REAL
Every art critic will tell you that prices of painter's work never reflect it's quality; nonetheless, Basquiat is American art's priciest auteur, and that must mean something. His exhibition opens at the London's Barbican in September. Basquiat has started as a graffiti artist when he was 17, soon switched to canvases, became the king of the 1980s New York underground and was dead by 27. His works are full of references to everything from African and Aztec art to antiquity and punk culture.
