Across From Lapeyrouse Nathalie Taghaboni
Ms Taghaboni is no stranger to SHE…as the writer of popular column Humour with Queen Macoomeh will contest to! SHE's Managing Editor constantly bickers (playfully) with ‘the Queen' during emails so our editor was very keen to read what she had to say in her first novel and she wasn't disappointed. The story follows the story of a high-profile Trinidadian family. Jeneva the main character describes a life which is all too-familiar with twists and turns along the way. Her father is the chief of police; her mother, beautiful, talented, tormented and distant. Her protective older brother can't shield her from life's bruises as he can't deal with his own fears. And Jeneva herself is growing into a testing adulthood, full of uncertainty and sudden lust, shining moments and stifling tension. The book has been described as, “Colourful, passionate, catapulting constantly between Caribbean Carnival in Trinidad and Toronto and the serenity of Tobago.” Nathalie Taghaboni was born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Toronto, Canada. She currently resides in the United States with her husband and two children.
