Kenita is well-known in the international halls of LGBTI advocacy, and a respected speaker at gay rights conferences around the world. Formerly the Executive Director of United and Strong Inc—Saint Lucia's only LGBTI advocacy group—she is now Eastern Caribbean Coordinator for the Caribbean Forum for Liberation and Acceptance of Genders and Sexualities (CARIFLAGS), and serves on the secretariat of ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Intersex Association. In a 2013 online vote, Kenita was The St. Lucia STAR Newspaper Readers' choice for Person Of The Year, the first openly gay person to win the award. This year she spoke at TheDailyBeast.Com ‘Quorum,' a live journalism forum focused on LGBTI issues, at which she described her personal experiences as an activist in the face of murder, arson and violence.
