SHE Carribean Magazine - - REPORTAGE -

Donnya admits she has to live with homophobia from her relatives and under constant threat of being thrown out of her family home—again. Despite the fact that her mother is ashamed of her and wishes she would ‘leave the island,' Donnya found the strength to establish B-GLAD (Barbados Gays & Lesbians Against Discrimination) in 2012 to offer support to LGBTI people in Barbados. In summer 2015 she went to London to receive a Queen Elizabeth's Young Leaders Award for her activism. She has facilitated workshops for the Commonwealth Youth Gender and Equality Network in Malta and has spoken at the Kaleidoscope Trust's Annual Lecture in London to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT).
