RHYTHM AND NOTES

The Star (St. Lucia) - Life Begins 2 Nite - - CONTENTS - With Toni Nicholas

Icame across an article on the website fivethirtyeight.com on the past trends whereby summer blockbuster songs have traditionally been out long before the sweltering heat. According to the writer; “historical trends have convinced me of one thing: The song of the summer will arrive before summer, and may already be here.” He then offered this; just look at the top songs of the summer going back to 1985, as calculated by Billboard. In that 30-year span, 36 percent came out in April or earlier, 36 percent came out in May, and the rest came out at a later date.

As the “song of the summer” has become a thing, efforts to manufacture that song — rather than merely stumbling into it — have become more concerted.

“When we plot the release dates over time, there’s a distinct trend: The song of the summer is coming out earlier and earlier,” it read. In fact that song may already be here and we just don’t know it as yet.

So I have decided to put a list of my top ten songs that I predict will run circles around the blocks, be pounding in your ears and will keep you humming or signing along this summer. 10. Trap Queen-Fetty Wap- Something for everyone this summer including this left of center Hip Hop track. 9. Energy-Drake- Hey easy breezy summer Rap songs have been part of his game plan. 8. Lean On-Major Lazer- DJ’s are big now and Major Lazer is part of that movement. 7. Be Real-Kid Ink- Kid Ink is hot right now and this one is climbing fast.

6. Cheerleader-OMI- Although I prefer the original, the remix of Jamaican born OMI’s Cheerleader has cross over appeal.

5. Times of Our Lives-Pitbull/Neyo- They know how to keep you dancing and singing into the

summer.

4. Blank Space-Taylor Swift- Yes its been around for a while but chicks dig it and guys go along with it. 3. GDFR- Flo Rida- He has done it before and I predict he will do it again with this song.

2. See You Again-Wiz Kahlifa f/Charlie Puth- Bolstered by its presence in the movie Fast & Furious this sing-a-long will soon be on the lips of everyone.

1. Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars- If ever there has been a song with staying power in recent times it would be this one. Released late last year I predict this song to still be trending all summer long.
