The an­nual Miss In­de­pen­dence Pageant was held at the na­tional cul­tural cen­ter on Satur­day Fe­bru­ary 20. The theme for this year’s pageant, or­ga­nized by Gre­gory Lorde pro­duc­tions was ‘Hu­man Rights – Let’s get it right!’ Emerg­ing vic­to­ri­ous as the new Miss In­de­pen­dence was Ak­ina Ran­dolph. She was fol­lowed by Lisa Eu­gene in se­cond place and Miss Tara Gon­zague, third. The con­tes­tants made sev­eral ap­pear­ances on the night in­clud­ing the open­ing num­ber and am­bas­sado­rial speech, evening­wear, in­ter­view and tal­ent. Im­me­di­ately fol­low­ing her corona­tion the In­de­pen­dence Queen made sev­eral ap­pear­ances last week­end at var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing the youth rally at the Min­doo Phillip Park where she of­fi­cially met the gov­er­nor gen­eral Dame Pear­lette Louisy, prime min­is­ter Kenny An­thony as well as sev­eral other dig­ni­taries.
