The annual Miss Independence Pageant was held at the national cultural center on Saturday February 20. The theme for this year’s pageant, organized by Gregory Lorde productions was ‘Human Rights – Let’s get it right!’ Emerging victorious as the new Miss Independence was Akina Randolph. She was followed by Lisa Eugene in second place and Miss Tara Gonzague, third. The contestants made several appearances on the night including the opening number and ambassadorial speech, eveningwear, interview and talent. Immediately following her coronation the Independence Queen made several appearances last weekend at various activities including the youth rally at the Mindoo Phillip Park where she officially met the governor general Dame Pearlette Louisy, prime minister Kenny Anthony as well as several other dignitaries.
