resident of Odsan, 19-year-old Kiana is a past student of the Ciceron Secondary School who started modeling when she was almost 15. She remembers vividly walking past a Castries hair salon and hearing someone shout hello. It turned out this was no ordinary someone. The hailer was the renowned Richard Young, a Trinidad native whose name is synonymous with Caribbean fashion.
“I had never worn heels,” Kiana told us, “but there was Richard asking me to attend an audition for a show he was producing.” Typically, Kiana would overcome her anxiety. Under Young's tutoring she learned not only to walk like a model in high heels but also that she had the potential to make a name for herself in the industry.
Now she says, “I feel totally at home on the runway, regardless of what I’m wearing.” Who would argue with that? Not us, that’s for sure.
Her favorite activities include swimming, reading, taking long walks on the beach and spending quality time with her siblings. Just now she’s planning to return to school with a view to taking to the skies as an air hostess. Which is not to say modeling is about to take a back seat.
“The way I see it,” she smiles, “I’ve got energy to burn and I might as well burn some of it making a mark in this world before I’m 30.”
Sounds good to us!
