HBO NEW SE­RIES “THE NIGHT OF”, DE­BUT­ING THIS SUM­MER

The Star (St. Lucia) - Life Begins 2 Nite - - JUICY LOCAL GOSSIP! - Based on the BBC se­ries, Crim­i­nal Jus­tice cre­ated by Peter Mof­fatt, The Night Of was filmed in and around the city of Man­hat­tan. The se­ries is pro­duced by Film­rights and BBC World­wide Pro­duc­tions for HBO.

HBO has an­nounced the de­but of a new orig­i­nal lim­ited se­ries, The Night Of, to pre­miere this sum­mer ex­clu­sively on HBO. Cre­ated by Richard Price (The Wire de HBO) and Steve Zail­lian (Schindler’s List), and star­ring John Tur­turro and Riz Ahmed, the se­ries delves into the in­tri­ca­cies of a com­plex New York City mur­der case with cul­tural and po­lit­i­cal over­tones. The story ex­am­ines the police in­ves­ti­ga­tion, the le­gal pro­ceed­ings, the crim­i­nal jus­tice sys­tem and the feral pur­ga­tory of Rik­ers Is­land, where the ac­cused await trial for felony crimes.

In ad­di­tion to Tur­turro and Ahmed, The Night Of, in­cludes per­for­mances from Michael Ken­neth Wil­liams (HBO’s Board­walk Em­pire and Bessie), Bill Camp (Birdman and 12 Years a Slave), Jean­nie Ber­lin, Poorna Ja­gan­nathan, Pay­man Maadi, Glenne Headly, Amara Karan, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Paul Sparks (HBO’s Board­walk Em­pire), Ben Shenkman (HBO’s An­gels in Amer­ica), Afton Wil­liamson (MAX Prime’s Ban­shee), Paulo Costanzo, Ned Eisen­berg, Mo­ham­mad Bakri, Na­bil Eloua­habi (Zero Dark Thirty), Ash­ley Thomas, Glenn Flesh­ler, Chip Zien and Max Casella (HBO’s Vinyl).

The eight-part se­ries in­cludes an ex­tended credit list from some of HBO’s most no­table pro­duc­ers. The Night Of is ex­ec­u­tive pro­duced by Steven Zail­lian, Richard Price, Jane Tran­ter (HBO’s Get­ting On and Rome) and Peter Mof­fat (HBO’s Ein­stein & Ed­ding­ton). It is the last project ex­ec­u­tive pro­duced by James Gan­dolfini (HBO’s The So­pra­nos) be­fore his death in 2013. The Night Of is co-ex­ec­u­tive pro­duced by Gar­rett Basch (Life It­self), Nancy San­ders (HBO’s Hem­ing­way & Gell­horn) and Mark Arm­strong (HBO’s Hem­ing­way & Gell­horn). The first episode was pro­duced by Mark A. Baker (Dam­ages), with Scott Fer­gu­son serv­ing as pro­ducer for episodes two through eight. Steve Zail­lian di­rected episodes one through three, and five through eight, while James Marsh (The The­ory of Ev­ery­thing) di­rected the fourth episode.
