The Star (St. Lucia) - Life Begins 2 Nite - - WHAT'S INSIDE? - By Claudia Eleibox

What is Hershey really made of? No worries, we've got the inside scoop on this week’s Made of More entertainer!

Claudia: How did you get into music and how did you become Hershey’s the entertainer?

Hershey: Ever since I was quite a young man I’ve been into music. I used to have loud sound systems in my room, so loud I had to seal the doors and windows because of the vibrations. Then my friend introduced me to Virtual DJ, and I was intrigued. I played around with it but it was only a hobby. I never imagined I would be doing it as a profession. Then when I went to college I used to play in my spare time. Eventually I started playing at house parties in Trinidad and people told me I was really good at it. When I returned to St.Lucia, I landed a contract with Happy Day Bar where I first got some recognition. Then Lamar hired me to do my thing every Thursday. Then I started getting more and more gigs. Lamar, who is actually my manager, kept telling me: “You’re not just a DJ, you’re more than that. You’re a hype man, you can host an audience, and you’re a mic man. You’re an entertainer.” That’s where Hershey’s the Entertainer came from.”

Claudia: How do you fine-tune your craft? Hershey: Well some people think I practice a lot. Actually I don’t. I practice new stuff at every event. I basically have it down when it comes to mixing and whatnot. So the way I perfect my craft is by going out. I never actually go out to party; I go to research. I study other DJs, do critiques in my mind and study crowd reaction.

Claudia: Do you have a favorite genre? Hershey: I’d say dancehall. But then I’m also crazy about soca. I became something of a soca junkie in Trinidad.

Claudia: As a DJ for Thank Guinness It's Thursday, what excites you about the brand? Hershey: Oh, everything. Guinness is a man’s drink and I’ve never been a girlie man. It’s a Stout, and Stout signifies strength and power, which exemplifies me. I want to be a powerful DJ. I totally identify with Guinness Made of More.

Claudia: So much for Guinness but what makes Hershey's the Entertainer tick? Hershey: Wow. Well, a lot. I’m made up of a lot of excitement. I’m made up of chocolate. I’m a sweet guy. I’m a Hershey bar. I’m lots of sugar and smiles. I’m also a very emotional creature with a very soft inside. I’m always laughing, always happy.

Claudia: Guinness is the official Stout of Promo Plus Rise Up Concert featuring Jah Cure and Sizzla. I’m told it’ll feature a Guinness Black Lounge, hosting winners and specially invited guests, including yourself?

Hershey: Hmm. It’ll be a great experience, with lots of foreign guests. A great a opportunity to learn about different countries and their cultures. Hopefully I’ll get to meet Sizzla. He’s my favorite performer.

Claudia: How else will this collaboration benefit you? Hershey: Guinness is a world-renowned brand. Me being a part of it means plenty benefits and hopefully opportunities to travel. Guinness also has an international page. They host events around the world. Music-wise, career-wise, I get to see a lot and converse and play for different cultures. This will be the ideal thing for me.

Claudia: What about Saint Lucia? Hershey: I love Saint Lucia and will always come home, no matter how far I may roam. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I also want to continue being of assistance to upcoming local DJs.
