Tyler’s ahead of the game!
Tyler Theophane competed in the Jaycee’s International Queen Show 2017 and Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant 2017 just days apart. Both times she finished first runner-up but not without putting up a patriotic fight. This week we got Tyler to share some of her thoughts about pageantry with 2Nite!
2Nite: How did you feel passing on the National Carnival Queen title this year?
Tyler: It doesn’t feel like it's over because I'm sure I'll still be doing what I did while I had the title of Carnival Queen.
2Nite: Why do you love pageantry?
Tyler: I love pageantry because I honestly believe it has changed my life completely and created a wonderful platform for me. My advice to those who doubt the power of pageantry is that you just have to use that platform wisely.
2Nite: What activities did you participate in during your reign?
Tyler: I visited schools, read to students, assisted with Christmas hampers, helped raise funds, helped campaigners for NYC, made appearances at different events, awaited young girls who needed consulting, helped folks interested in pageantry and the greatest of them all, my all girls club.
2Nite: In terms of your participation in regional pageants, how did you feel competing against girls who may not have been familiar with your homeland or culture?
Tyler: I'm not one who usually gets intimidated. I got along with the young ladies from both pageants quite well and eventually it was like I was speaking to everyday friends. I try to build friendships rather than strictly competing.
2Nite: Have you developed a favourite pageant segment?
Tyler: I can’t deny that I’ve grown to love the swimsuit segment.
2Nite: What is your pageant preparation like?
Tyler: It entails lengthy rehearsals of course. I also have to dedicate time for the gym, stick to my diet, and endure some sleepless nights!
2Nite: What do you do to calm your nerves?
Tyler: It’s simple! I think happy thoughts. I also read notes that my mom and sister wrote me and that really helps me out.
2Nite: If there was one thing you could say to people who’ve supported you throughout this experience, what would it be?
Tyler: I love pageantry. I love how it makes me feel and how it allows me to be myself. I do it because it allows me to put my skills and knowledge to good use. I am extremely proud of being the pageant girl I am. Thank you Saint Lucia for allowing me to represent you.
