Did Fond St. Jacques Men Stumble on Drug Turf?
The community of Fond St. Jacques, once referred to as the nation’s breadbasket due to the availability of fresh produce there year-round, has been thrown into grief and fear this week.
Two lifeless bodies were discovered beneath the bushes and shrubs on Tuesday in Fond St Jacques, Soufriere leaving police baffled. Recently there had been a spate of gangrelated violence in Soufriere and some persons are stating that an increase in wars for turf in the illicit drug trade is at the root.
Recently the police drug unit eradicated a number of marijuana farms in the area. Since then some individuals had reported receiving threats from various persons who accused them of giving information to the police.
One of the bodies discovered Tuesday was that of Victor Jn Phillip, 65, a farmer from the area. He was discovered with a single gunshot wound to the head. That same day police discovered the body of an unidentified male whose body bore one gunshot wound to the abdomen. At the time, it was believed that he had been dead for more than two days.
The police chief said the RSLPF has not been able to determine whether there is any relation between the two bodies found but hinted that there was the possibility the matter could have been drug related.
“We are actively pursuing the matter. We have not yet been able to identify the second body. We are working with members of the community to get some identification,” Francois said Thursday.
