Me­dia dis­cusses self-reg­u­la­tion to­day!

The Me­dia As­so­ci­a­tion of Saint Lu­cia will to­day host Wes­ley Gib­bings of the As­so­ci­a­tion of Caribbean Me­dia Work­ers, and Bethel McKen­zie of the In­ter­na­tional Press In­sti­tute for a con­sul­ta­tion on me­dia self-reg­u­la­tion.

The venue is Mon­roe Col­lege and the meet­ing is sched­uled to get un­der­way at 9:00.

Said MASL pres­i­dent Clin­ton Reynolds: “It is our hope that lo­cal me­dia per­son­nel will turn out in large num­bers, since the mat­ter to be dis­cussed de­mands ur­gent at­ten­tion.”

The ACM is en­gag­ing in a project to de­velop a frame­work for me­dia self-reg­u­la­tion in the Caribbean. The stake­holder con­sul­ta­tions will ex­plore mod­els and op­tions and en­gage in frank di­a­logue on me­dia ethics and stan­dards. Sim­i­lar con­sul­ta­tions have been held in Ja­maica, Trinidad and Guyana.

The project has been un­der­taken through the support of UNESCO and ACM part­ner or­ga­ni­za­tions through­out the ACM net­work.
