DIGICEL SUPPORTS THE 2014 ATLANTIC RALLY FOR CRUISERS
Digicel is yet again elated to support the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) transatlantic competition for a seventh consecutive year. In a cheque presentation held
on Tuesday at the Royal St. Lucian Hotel, Digicel, platinum sponsor of this international event, unveiled its financial and network support to the St. Lucia Tourist Board for the success of the twenty-fifth (25th) Atlantic Rally for Cruisers in St. Lucia.
As the 2014 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers is gearing up to kick off on Sunday November 23rd from Gran Canaria, so too will the symbolic flotilla sail from the Castries Harbor to the Rodney Bay Marina in St. Lucia.
The ARC is a ‘must do’ for many international sailors and attracts over 200 yachts and 1,200 persons every year to sail the 2,700 nautical miles across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia.
Digicel, realizing the importance of St. Lucia being the end destination of this unique and premium race, was more than happy to partner once more with the St. Lucia Tourist Board in hosting the twenty nine-year-old sailing competition. A cash provision of twenty five thousand dollars along with wifi services for the entire IGY Rodney Bay Marina,
smartphones, sim cards and dongles all speak to Digicel’s commitment to the success of the ARC and ensuring that all participants, when docking in St. Lucia, have reliable
connectivity through Digicel’s 4G network.
Another mainstay which Digicel is happy to support is the “Chart the ARC”. This has become a staple radio programme crafted by The Wave to keep St. Lucians excited about the trans-Atlantic race. It gives everyone the
opportunity to get involved and be ‘in the know’ about the participants and their vessels. The exposure and revenue the ARC brings to the island and its people is invaluable. The radio programme also seeks to inform St. Lucians of the many linkages and spinoffs derived from the ARC festival and the many yachting families who will grace our shores.
As commented by Holly Hughes McNamara, Digicel’s Country Manager, “Digicel is once again pleased to provide support to this worthwhile venture for the seventh year. ARC brings to St. Lucia international exposure and
the opportunity for much-needed
foreign investment as well as
on-island revenue generating
initiatives which will benefit the local populace. We at Digicel are happy to partner with the St. Lucia Tourist Board in this and any venture that delivers positive returns and economic stimulation for St. Lucia. Participants arriving on our shores will utilize and enjoy Digicel’s islandwide 4G network to keep connected to their loved ones back home after their extensive journey.”
Digicel will continue to
work closely with the SLTB and IGY to ensure the 2014 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers is yet another extraordinary experience for sailors and locals alike.
