SLAPS Seeks Assistance
The Saint Lucia Animal Protection Society (SLAPS) was founded in 1998 and works for the welfare of animals throughout the island. The organization relies on the time and effort of volunteers and is funded solely through donations, sponsorship and fund-raising events.
SLAPS is presently without a permanent facility to care for animals. Currently, dogs and puppies in need of nurture are fostered at the home of canine-caring members. Cats and kittens are taken in by various feline-fancying supporters until such time as permanent, good homes can be found for the animals.
SLAPS, with the assistance of some local veterinary surgeons, tries to neuter as many cats and dogs as possible in order to keep down the numbers. The society also endeavors to assist with feeding programmes and with medical care for sick or injured animals, whether they be strays or the pets of loving owners who cannot afford the full cost of treatment.
Fund-raising events include regular quizzes and a quarterly flea market. The next market will be on Saturday 29th November from 9 am until 1 pm in front of the Aquatic Centre in Rodney Bay. All are invited to drop in, pick up bargains and learn more about the society.
SLAPS is always searching for caring people who are willing to adopt animals. Featured are some of the dogs and puppies presently in our care. If you are capable of taking in one or more of these delightful creatures (or a cat or kittens) and providing them with a nurturing environment, please contact Pam or Francine on 457 5277 or 721 1976.
