HEALTH OFFICIALS EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO CIBC FIRSTCARIBBEAN FOR ITS ADOPT-A-CAUSE PROGRAMME
During a presentation ceremony held this week, officials from the Ministry of Health and Soufriere Hospital expressed their appreciation for restoration efforts of CIBC FirstCaribbean as part of the bank’s annual Adopt-a-Cause Programme.
The programme saw the renovation of the paediatric ward of the Soufriere Hospital which included the replacement of the roof, broken floor tiles and louvers, refurbishing of beds and cradles as well as resurfacing of bedside tables, painting of a mural, a toy drive, painting of colourful seating / storage boxes, provision of curtains and bed linens and installation of ceiling and standing fans.
Elda Michel, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, expressed the Ministry’s gratitude to CIBC FirstCaribbean, stating, “On behalf of the Government and people of St. Lucia, and specifically on behalf of the people of Soufriere, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations would like to express deep appreciation to the management and staff of CIBC FirstCaribbean for undertaking this project.”
Nurse Payne, Head Nurse of the Soufriere Hospital, stressed the importance of the programme’s activities stating, “This has been long awaited. The ward has been in a deplorable state for a while and as we can see this is a great improvement to what we had before.”
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Ian Nathaniel, stated, “Over the years, Adopt-a-Cause has contributed towards the work of a number of local community groups that add value to the lives of elderly and youth on-island. The Adopt-a-Cause Programme is an annual community-focused programme spearheaded by our employees, who identify and select organisations within their communities that can benefit from a helping hand. This year we pooled our resources together to focus on enhancing the Paediatric Ward of the Soufriere Hospital. A total in excess of EC$14,000 went into restoration activates and supplies for this project. We are thrilled that outside of our core operation, as a corporate entity the name of CIBC FirstCaribbean has become synonymous in Saint Lucia with human empowerment, celebration of culture and tradition and community involvement - through such programmes as Adopt-A-Cause. Indeed, we are bankers, but we are also our brother’s keeper.”
