JA Participants “Get In The Ring” For JA Startup Fete
Junior Achievement Saint Lucia launched its 2nd annual JA Startup Fete on Tuesday November 11th 2014 under the theme “Get In The Ring.” The event was held at the Golden Palm Events Centre in Rodney Bay.
Executive Director of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Brian Louisy, served as a facilitator for the day and encouraged students to capitalize on every opportunity afforded them especially when it relates to public speaking and pitching an idea as this will contribute to them being more assertive and confident individuals.
The goal of JA Startup Fete is to inspire participants to develop innovative business ideas geared towards starting their JA Companies in a funfilled atmosphere. Setting the trend for the day were JA volunteers Ms. Mindy Chicot and Ms. Melissa Francis who simulated a boxing match to pitch their business ideas. Equipped with their laptops, music, food and drinks, 11 teams set out to work pitching their ideas, focusing on the development of their business plans and receiving invaluable feedback and support from a panel of judges and mentors from the corporate community. Anse Ger Secondary won the crowd’s favourite pitch and was
selected as the top presentation by a panel of judges.
The 100 participants in attendance were accompanied by 14 teacher advisors with approximately 25 partners and volunteers from the private and civil sectors mentoring and providing support throughout the day.
JA Startup Fete 2014 achieved its objectives in
inspiring the youth and empowering them to own their economic success.
JA St Lucia and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture extend sincere appreciation to the following companies and individuals for their contribution in making the event a major success: The Ministry of Commerce, SEDU, CFL, The Cell, BOSIL, BNS, Peter & Co, Lucelec, Union Vale Estate, Outsource, Mrs. Joyce Destang, Wilton Jeremie, Gilland
