JA Par­tic­i­pants “Get In The Ring” For JA Startup Fete

Ju­nior Achieve­ment Saint Lu­cia launched its 2nd an­nual JA Startup Fete on Tues­day Novem­ber 11th 2014 un­der the theme “Get In The Ring.” The event was held at the Golden Palm Events Cen­tre in Rod­ney Bay.

Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of the St. Lu­cia Cham­ber of Com­merce, Mr. Brian Louisy, served as a fa­cil­i­ta­tor for the day and en­cour­aged stu­dents to cap­i­tal­ize on ev­ery op­por­tu­nity af­forded them es­pe­cially when it re­lates to pub­lic speak­ing and pitch­ing an idea as this will con­trib­ute to them be­ing more as­sertive and con­fi­dent in­di­vid­u­als.

The goal of JA Startup Fete is to in­spire par­tic­i­pants to de­velop in­no­va­tive business ideas geared to­wards start­ing their JA Com­pa­nies in a fun­filled at­mos­phere. Set­ting the trend for the day were JA vol­un­teers Ms. Mindy Chicot and Ms. Melissa Fran­cis who sim­u­lated a box­ing match to pitch their business ideas. Equipped with their lap­tops, mu­sic, food and drinks, 11 teams set out to work pitch­ing their ideas, fo­cus­ing on the de­vel­op­ment of their business plans and re­ceiv­ing in­valu­able feed­back and support from a panel of judges and men­tors from the cor­po­rate com­mu­nity. Anse Ger Sec­ondary won the crowd’s favourite pitch and was

se­lected as the top pre­sen­ta­tion by a panel of judges.

The 100 par­tic­i­pants in attendance were ac­com­pa­nied by 14 teacher ad­vi­sors with ap­prox­i­mately 25 part­ners and vol­un­teers from the pri­vate and civil sec­tors men­tor­ing and pro­vid­ing support through­out the day.

JA Startup Fete 2014 achieved its ob­jec­tives in

in­spir­ing the youth and em­pow­er­ing them to own their eco­nomic suc­cess.
