UNESCO approves funding to develop a guiding framework for TVET in Saint Lucia
The Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO is delighted to present USD 26,000.00 to the Government and People of Saint Lucia on behalf of the TVET Unit/TVET Council of the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour, to fund their Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy Development. The project is aimed at developing a guiding framework for TVET in Saint Lucia.
Funding for this project (USD26,000.000), has been secured under the UNESCO Participation Programme request, 2014-2015 biennium, and is in keeping with UNESCO’s 2014-2021 Strategic Priority of “responding to the rising demand for TVET policies and programmes – caused by globalization, technological advances, demographic pressures, social inequalities and the quest for sustainable development – that respond to labour market demands, support youth transitions between education and the world of work, and promote poverty reduction, social inclusion and gender equality”.
The official presentation ceremony took place at the office of the Minister for Education, Human Resource Development and Labour on Tuesday 25th November.
The National Commission is pleased to contribute to these development initiatives that help to create an environment conducive to poverty alleviation which, by capitalising on the skills and capacities of the poor themselves, are aimed at helping them to devise their own strategies to rise out of poverty. As such, the Commission is excited about the impact of this, and other such development programmes and projects, on the people of Saint Lucia.
