Laborie hosts Community Pan Fiesta on Sunday 7 December
In 2006 the Cultural Development Foundation and the Poverty Reduction Fund (now the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund) made available to Labowi Promotions a set of steel pan instruments and covered training costs for an initial period of one year. Eight years later, the Laborie Steel Pan has become one of the recognised steel orchestras on the island, and it is a major contributor to arts and community in Laborie.
Once again, it is thanks to the CDF that a major pan event will take place in Laborie this Sunday. Dubbed as the Community Pan Fiesta, the event will take place at the Laborie Market and it will start at 4pm. It will bring together three bands that benefited in the past few months from a training programme sponsored and organised by the CDF.
In addition to the Laborie Steel Pan, the two other bands participating in Sunday’s Fiesta are the Assumption Knights Youth in Action from Vieux Fort and the St. Lucy’s Steel Orchestra from Micoud. Only last weekend, on November 29th, the Laborie Steel Pan participated in a similar event in Micoud hosted by the St. Lucy’s Steel Orchestra.
Sunday’s event will celebrate the talent of young people and the remarkable progress made by community pan orchestras in various parts of Saint Lucia. Laborie is proud to host this event, following eight years of hard work by the Laborie Steel Pan, culminating with its performance at Panorama this year.
“The Laborie Steel Pan and, by extension, the entire community of Laborie are looking forward to hosting this event. We’ve worked extremely hard over the few months preparing for it and we are grateful to CDF for their support. We are inviting all pan music lovers to Laborie to witness and be part of an explosive Pan Fiesta”, says Laborie Pan Leader Quill Barthelmy.
