GRAND TEA PARTY
The Piton Lions Club is hosting a Grand Tea Party Fun for Sight, Sunday December 7th, 2014.
This activity is a special annual event, organized by the Piton Lions Club, to raise funds to support the Kids Insight Project (KIS); a project of St. Lucia Blind Welfare Association [SLBWA], Lions Clubs of St. Lucia, and the Eye Institute of the University of West Virginia.
From inception in 2003 to date, Kids Insight has provided a variety of Paediatric Ophthalmic interventions which include diagnostic, surgical, treatment and low vision aids, to thousands of St. Lucian children gratis.
This amazing humanitarian service called Kids Insight is being delivered by a team of volunteers from the Eye Institute of WVU, consisting of Paediatric Ophthalmologist, Cataract, Glaucoma, Retinal Specialists, and Ocular Plastic Surgeon. It also includes education, rehabilitation, braille and low vision specialists. The team visits St. Lucia once or twice (depending on needs) per year.
The Kids Insight coordinating committee is extremely grateful for the cooperation and tangible support of the following: Government, Ministries of Health and Education, Community Nursing Service, Victoria and St. Jude Hospitals, Customs, Lions International, Corporate Communities of St. Lucia and West Virginia. Their collaborative effort helps to sustain KIS.
Eye Health Officer, Nurse Denise Godin, reported that 165 children have been selected for the Kids Insight 2015 visit, slated for January 27th through February 10th.
So, let’s all celebrate the “Grand Tea Party Fun for Sight”. The cost of EC$75 covers good local eats and entertainment. Performances will be by TC Brown, Ashanti, Alley Cat, Visually Impaired band, Tree C, Wednesday, plus many other performances and attractions.
