Ship Fire-3 Dead!
SLASPA on Thursday confirmed an incident on board a cruise ship berthed at the Castries harbour.
The STAR has learned that three people were hospitalized as a result of a fire Thursday morning on board the ship.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service received a call at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday that a fire had broken out in the engine room of the Insignia which was in Port Castries.
In a statement later that morning SLASPA said, “There is an evolving situation and we are currently gathering as much information as possible. While we are working to get your questions answered as quickly as possible, we can confirm that at approximately 9:10 am a fire had started at the engine room on board cruise vessel Insigna while berthed at berth number 5, Port Castries. The agency later convened a press conference on the incident. It was later confirmed that three persons had died from the fire and another hospitalized.
