Ship Fire-3 Dead!

SLASPA on Thurs­day con­firmed an in­ci­dent on board a cruise ship berthed at the Castries har­bour.

The STAR has learned that three peo­ple were hos­pi­tal­ized as a re­sult of a fire Thurs­day morn­ing on board the ship.

The Saint Lu­cia Fire Ser­vice re­ceived a call at about 9:30 a.m. Thurs­day that a fire had bro­ken out in the en­gine room of the In­signia which was in Port Castries.

In a state­ment later that morn­ing SLASPA said, “There is an evolv­ing sit­u­a­tion and we are cur­rently gath­er­ing as much in­for­ma­tion as pos­si­ble. While we are work­ing to get your ques­tions an­swered as quickly as pos­si­ble, we can con­firm that at ap­prox­i­mately 9:10 am a fire had started at the en­gine room on board cruise ves­sel Insigna while berthed at berth num­ber 5, Port Castries. The agency later con­vened a press con­fer­ence on the in­ci­dent. It was later con­firmed that three per­sons had died from the fire and another hos­pi­tal­ized.
