Adelegation from the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) headed by Mr. Joseph Alexander, Executive Director of the St. Lucia Employers Federation met with officials from the National Workers Union (NWU) Monday December 8, 2014.

The parties met to undertake a negotiating audit and to determine the way forward for negotiations between the National Insurance Corporation and the National Workers Union.

Recently the workers resorted to an industrial sit-in to demonstrate their disgust with the snail’s pace of negotiations being held between the parties and the decision to walk out of the meeting by a member of the NIC delegation. The NWU felt that such action was disrespectful of the process and should not be tolerated.

National Insurance Corporation workers at Vieux Fort, Castries, Soufriere and Rodney Bay have returned to their jobs, which gives the negotiating process a chance to engage.

The workers and leadership of the NWU also gave the assurance that nothing would be done to prevent Saint Lucians from getting their pensions and other benefits this month.
