Belle Vue Development Committee to host National Drumming Festival
In keeping with the thrust of solidifying Belle Vue’s image as the “Cultural Capital of Saint Lucia”, the members of the Belle Vue Development Committee have organized a national drumming festival to commemorate National Day in Saint Lucia on the 13th of December, 2014. This first event of its kind, will be held at the Belle Vue Human Resource Development Centre from 6:30 pm. Avot Sevis, Harmony Trio, Tamboo Mele and Wanjman are the main drumming groups that will be featured during this highly anticipated drumming festival.
In addition to these groups many solo drummers will perform pieces using the traditional drum. Other performing acts at the festival include: Miracle Dancers, No Limit Dancers, Belle Vue La Rose Group, Isla James’ Models and poets from Vieux-Fort North and environs. All are invited to be a part of what promises to be a spectacular and grand occasion. Persons are encouraged to dress in national colours when attending the festival, given that this event is held on National Day.
All funds raised at this activity will be donated to Mr Albert Antoine of Grace, Vieux-Fort who is in urgent need of medical treatment. To implement the drumming festival organizers have teamed up with the Ministry of Creative Industries and Moses Jn Baptiste who is the parliamentary representative for Vieux-Fort North. Accordingly, the ministry is providing valuable funding for this event. Jn Baptiste, who is a drummer and culture activist will serve as the artistic director for the festival.
The show will be managed by Kendall Elva, president of the Belle Vue Development Committee and Miss Eleanor Joseph, president of the Vieux-Fort North Youth and Sports Council.
