JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT ST. LUCIA REACHES A MILESTONE
Apress conference was held on December 16th 2014 for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Junior Achievement St. Lucia and the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour. The signing of the agreement is intended to quantify the Ministry’s contribution to the JA programme here in Saint Lucia, setting a framework for collaborative efforts in implementing the JA programmes in all schools; pooling of resources and experts in support of the USAID grant agreement between JA offices in the OECS and Barbados.
Executive Director of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Mr. Brian Louisy, explained that the MOU was the result of 18 years of dedicated support from the Ministry, teachers, principals and partners who saw the relevance of this economic literacy programme which was introduced by the Chamber.
Chief Education Officer, Mr. Marcus Edwards, noted that the Ministry will ensure that this sequential programme offered to Grade K – 11 is brought to every school on the island as it is relevant to the schools’ curriculum and also prepares students for the world of work, enhancing their skills in communication, leadership, problem solving and team work.
The MOU was then signed between Junior Achievement St. Lucia and the Ministry of Education, symbolizing the Ministry’s full endorsement of the programme and the validation of the Ministry’s contribution towards the USAID and Junior Achievement Program for the Eastern Caribbean (JAPEC).
Junior Achievement St. Lucia is extremely grateful to the government and people of the United States of America through the USAID agency and JAPEC and to the Ministry of Education for its support and commitment and looks forward to the commencement of the programme for the New Year.
