Apress con­fer­ence was held on De­cem­ber 16th 2014 for the sign­ing of a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MOU) be­tween Ju­nior Achieve­ment St. Lu­cia and the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, Hu­man Re­source De­vel­op­ment and Labour. The sign­ing of the agree­ment is in­tended to quan­tify the Min­istry’s con­tri­bu­tion to the JA pro­gramme here in Saint Lu­cia, set­ting a frame­work for col­lab­o­ra­tive ef­forts in im­ple­ment­ing the JA pro­grammes in all schools; pool­ing of re­sources and ex­perts in support of the USAID grant agree­ment be­tween JA of­fices in the OECS and Bar­ba­dos.

Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of the St. Lu­cia Cham­ber of Com­merce, In­dus­try and Agri­cul­ture, Mr. Brian Louisy, ex­plained that the MOU was the re­sult of 18 years of ded­i­cated support from the Min­istry, teach­ers, prin­ci­pals and part­ners who saw the rel­e­vance of this eco­nomic lit­er­acy pro­gramme which was in­tro­duced by the Cham­ber.

Chief Ed­u­ca­tion Of­fi­cer, Mr. Mar­cus Ed­wards, noted that the Min­istry will en­sure that this se­quen­tial pro­gramme of­fered to Grade K – 11 is brought to ev­ery school on the is­land as it is rel­e­vant to the schools’ cur­ricu­lum and also pre­pares stu­dents for the world of work, en­hanc­ing their skills in com­mu­ni­ca­tion, lead­er­ship, prob­lem solv­ing and team work.

The MOU was then signed be­tween Ju­nior Achieve­ment St. Lu­cia and the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, sym­bol­iz­ing the Min­istry’s full en­dorse­ment of the pro­gramme and the val­i­da­tion of the Min­istry’s con­tri­bu­tion to­wards the USAID and Ju­nior Achieve­ment Pro­gram for the East­ern Caribbean (JAPEC).

Ju­nior Achieve­ment St. Lu­cia is ex­tremely grate­ful to the gov­ern­ment and peo­ple of the United States of Amer­ica through the USAID agency and JAPEC and to the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion for its support and com­mit­ment and looks for­ward to the com­mence­ment of the pro­gramme for the New Year.
