A New Mayor In Town

The Star (St. Lucia) - - LOCAL -

Asurprise appearance two weeks ago during the opening of the Bois d’Orange bridge and subsequent news reports revealed who the Mayor of Gros Islet was. It would seem that most Saint Lucians, including the residents of Gros Islet were caught unawares judging by their reaction on social media. The name and face which became the subject of discussion was that of Alison King. Following much querying on one Gros Islet social media group, the following was disseminated by the relevant authorities by way of some enlightenment: “The newly appointed Board of the Gros Islet Constituency Council was appointed on 2nd July 2014. On that day Ms Alison King was sworn in as Mayor of the Constituency of Gros Islet with a deputy Mr John Michel and seven other appointed councilors”. The named councilors are Terrence Elliot, Vaughn Edwin, Patrick Michaud, Calixte George Jr, Marilyn Phillips David, Loraine Neptune and Joyce Destang. The statement goes on to point out that the immediate past Chairman then was Felix Finisterre who resigned from the position in May of 2013 and John Michel acted as Chairman until the appointment of Clarence Rambally in October 2013 as the first officially appointed Mayor of Gros Islet. Everyone prior to that had served in the capacity of Chairman. The boundaries of Gros Islet extend from Cap Estate to Choc.-
