Just 4 Fun’s Carnival Coup
Who would have thought - a carnival band launch in January when carnival is all the way in July of that year? Well last Saturday carnival band Just 4 Fun came up with the previously “unthinkable” and delivered the biggest carnival band launch here in the history of Looshan Mas. Come to think of it, the event was much grander than last year’s national carnival launch at Mindoo Phillip Park.
The event was held in the Courtyard of the Gaiety on Rodney Bay where Just 4 Fun welcomed thousands to the unveiling of their theme for this year’s carnival “Out of Afrika.” The band launch featured the band Evalucian who put on a great performance offering the three-thousand plus crowd Soca numbers between 2014 and 2015. The band’s front man, Arthur has developed much as a performer and his ability to connect with his audience on Saturday was remarkable.
One of the island’s foremost DJs, Sir Lancealot also had his say on Saturday creating a wonderful Soca atmosphere ahead of the actual unveiling of the costumes. The unveiling itself featured an African dance presentation before the first section of the band was prortrayed. All eyes were on the massive stage to the back of the courtyard as cell phones strained to get that perfect picture of the costumed models.
Eight sections later and it was time for the finale, the model adorning the costume in the VVIP section. Introduced by shield bearing African warriors, she made her way on stage, much to the delight of the audience. But there was more! Just 4 Fun’s signature body-painted model made her way on stage with little on save for dashing colours of carefully applied paint. She was joined on stage by all the models as they danced back and forth across the stage before making their way through the crowd and upstairs to the VIP section.
