Sandals Foundation Injects Over $40,000 in Equipping Community Center
The Sandals Foundation has recently injected EC$40,737 into the enhancement of the Fond St. Jacques Community Resource Centre.
The Sandals Foundation partnered with the Fond St. Jacques Community Development Committee last year in a bid to rejuvenate the centre and provide an outlet for youth to research, learn and communicate through technology.
With the non-profit organisation’s support, the facility – which operates as an information technology lab, Internet café and interpretation centre – has been outfitted with a wide range of equipment such as a refrigerator, tables and chairs, a projector with screen, laptop and desktop computers, a multimedia recorder, a 40” flat screen television, an all-in-one printer and scanner with a copier and fax machine.
“Community centres are important to the overall well-being and development of communities,” said Heidi Clarke, director of programmes for the Sandals Foundation.
“They provide a safe space for learning, mentorship, youth development and community engagement. We hope the new equipment will address the needs of all age groups at this centre and enhance learning among our youth as the Sandal Foundation intended.”
The upgrades are expected to benefit residents in Fond St. Jacques and those living within the subcommunities of Belle Plaine, Bois d’Inde, Esperance, Ti Bough, Belvedere, La Couwan, L’tang, Mocha, Migny, St. Phillip and Ravine Claire.
