Borde­lais Cor­rec­tional Fa­cil­ity ush­ers in new Direc­tor

Min­is­ter for Legal Af­fairs, Home Af­fairs and Na­tional Se­cu­rity, Se­na­tor the hon­ourable Vic­tor Phillip La Corbiniere was on hand at the Borde­lais Cor­rec­tional Fa­cil­ity to demon­strate his sup­port for the tran­si­tion in lead­er­ship which took ef­fect on Fri­day, Fe­bru­ary 27, 2015.

A wel­com­ing cer­e­mony and pa­rade marked a mo­men­tous start to the tour of duty of Mr. Verne Garde, who is a ca­reer law en­force­ment pro­fes­sional.

The min­is­ter wel­comed the new direc­tor to the folds of the Borde­lais Cor­rec­tional Fa­cil­ity and ex­pressed con­fi­dence that the man­age­ment team and per­son­nel will en­sure that there is a pos­i­tive tran­si­tion process. “A tran­si­tion must be smooth and peace­ful in any in­sti­tu­tion. There is ab­so­lutely no room for any kind of dif­fi­culty or any kind of dis­rup­tion in terms of the man­age­ment of the in­sti­tu­tion or or­ga­ni­za­tion. This tran­si­tion has to be smooth and it has to be a dis­ci­plined tran­si­tion,” Min­is­ter La Corbiniere said.

Ac­cord­ing to the min­is­ter, the cer­e­mony re­in­forces the val­ues of dis­ci­pline, pro­fes­sion­al­ism and re­spect that the Borde­lais Cor­rec­tional Fa­cil­ity up­holds. Min­is­ter La Corbiniere ac­knowl­edged the in­valu­able con­tri­bu­tion of the out­go­ing direc­tor, Mr. Hi­lary Her­man, and thanked the Of­fi­cer in Charge in the in­terim As­sis­tant Direc­tor of Cor­rec­tions, Mr. Wayne Charlery, for a job well done.

Mean­time new direc­tor Verne Garde met the press and vouched his com­mit­ment to steer­ing Cor­rec­tions in Saint Lu­cia in a new di­rec­tion. Mr. Garde in­di­cated that is­sues of re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion, cor­rup­tion and wel­fare of work­ers, among oth­ers, will con­tinue to be pri­or­ity ar­eas within the in­sti­tu­tion.
