PRIME MINISTER ATTENDS SPECIAL SUMMIT
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony this week attended a special meeting in Caracas, Venezuela of Heads of State and Government of Petro Caribe and ALBA, a statement from his office announced Friday.
“Whereas the meeting has been convened to discuss matters related to Petro Caribe and ALBA, the Prime Minister says it presents a great opportunity to extend thanks to the Republic of Venezuela and ALBA for its assistance and to explore new areas of cooperation,” the release states. It went on to quote the prime minister as saying “Venezuela and ALBA have been exceedingly generous to Saint Lucia and this is another opportunity to say thank you. The ALBA Bridge was recently completed and our students are currently receiving laptops made available by Venezuela. To date we have received over $37 million in grant funding from ALBA. For this we are grateful”.
On Friday Dr. Anthony was expected to meet with the President of Venezuela as well as officials from ALBA to discuss support and financing for new projects.
On Thursday, March 5 the Prime Minister attended the commemoration of the second anniversary of the death of former President Hugo Chavez. He was accompanied on his visit to Caracas by Saint Lucia’s non-resident Ambassador to Petro Caribe and ALBA, H.E. Eustace Vitalis.
The prime minister was expected to return to Saint Lucia Friday, March 6 on an aircraft provided by the Government of Venezuela.
