Prime Min­is­ter Hon. Dr. Kenny D. An­thony this week at­tended a spe­cial meet­ing in Cara­cas, Venezuela of Heads of State and Gov­ern­ment of Petro Caribe and ALBA, a state­ment from his of­fice an­nounced Fri­day.

“Whereas the meet­ing has been con­vened to dis­cuss mat­ters re­lated to Petro Caribe and ALBA, the Prime Min­is­ter says it presents a great op­por­tu­nity to ex­tend thanks to the Repub­lic of Venezuela and ALBA for its as­sis­tance and to ex­plore new ar­eas of co­op­er­a­tion,” the re­lease states. It went on to quote the prime min­is­ter as say­ing “Venezuela and ALBA have been ex­ceed­ingly gen­er­ous to Saint Lu­cia and this is an­other op­por­tu­nity to say thank you. The ALBA Bridge was re­cently com­pleted and our stu­dents are cur­rently re­ceiv­ing lap­tops made avail­able by Venezuela. To date we have re­ceived over $37 mil­lion in grant fund­ing from ALBA. For this we are grate­ful”.

On Fri­day Dr. An­thony was ex­pected to meet with the Pres­i­dent of Venezuela as well as of­fi­cials from ALBA to dis­cuss sup­port and fi­nanc­ing for new projects.

On Thurs­day, March 5 the Prime Min­is­ter at­tended the com­mem­o­ra­tion of the sec­ond an­niver­sary of the death of for­mer Pres­i­dent Hugo Chavez. He was ac­com­pa­nied on his visit to Cara­cas by Saint Lu­cia’s non-res­i­dent Am­bas­sador to Petro Caribe and ALBA, H.E. Eus­tace Vi­talis.

The prime min­is­ter was ex­pected to re­turn to Saint Lu­cia Fri­day, March 6 on an air­craft pro­vided by the Gov­ern­ment of Venezuela.
