The Ki­wa­nis Club of Cas­tries hosted the 2nd Di­vi­sional Coun­cil Meet­ing of Di­vi­sion 27 of the Eastern Canada & Caribbean Dis­trict of Ki­wa­nis In­ter­na­tional last Satur­day 28th Fe­bru­ary at Coco Kre­ole in Rod­ney Bay un­der the chair­man­ship of Lieu­tenant Gover­nor Ian Est­wick of Bar­ba­dos. Clubs from An­tigua, St. Kitts, Do­minica, Bar­ba­dos, Mar­tinique and host coun­try St. Lu­cia were rep­re­sented. Past EC&C Dis­trict Gover­nor Gary Levine from Canada at­tended, updating clubs on the lat­est work of Ki­wa­nis In­ter­na­tional.

At the meet­ing clubs re­ported on the suc­cess­ful projects un­der­taken for the last quar­ter and ex­changed ideas as to how best tai­lor th­ese projects to adapt to re­spec­tive lo­cales. Lieu­tenant Gover­nor Ian Est­wick re­minded all clubs that, as Ki­wa­nis In­ter­na­tional cel­e­brates its 100th an­niver­sary, all clubs world­wide were man­dated to un­der­take at least one project fo­cus­ing on Ki­wa­nis In­ter­na­tional theme “Serv­ing The Chil­dren of The World”. In this con­nec­tion the lo­cal Ki­wa­nis Chap­ter signed a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing with the Lady Gor­don Op­por­tu­nity Cen­tre for the club to re­fur­bish the school play­ground and parts of the school’s in­fra­struc­ture.

Youth ser­vices Chair­man and Pres­i­dent Elect of the Ki­wa­nis Club of Cas­tries Michael Las­caris spoke of re­pair­ing swings and slides and re­fur­bish­ing the school toi­lets, as well as build­ing new lunch ta­bles and benches at a cost of ap­prox­i­mately EC $10,000.

Ms. Linda Pre­ville, Prin­ci­pal of the Lady Gor­don Op­por­tu­nity Cen­tre ex­pressed her sin­cere thanks to the club.
