Dig­i­cel Sup­ports Grow Well Pri­mary School Quiz Com­pe­ti­tion

As part of its on-go­ing drive to de­velop the youth of the Gros Islet com­mu­nity, Dig­i­cel part­nered with Grow Well Inc. in host­ing its thir­teenth an­nual Pri­mary Schools Quiz Com­pe­ti­tion on Fri­day, March 6, 2015 at the Play­ers Pav­il­ion of the Beause­jour Cricket Grounds.

The com­pe­ti­tion was held amongst the six pri­mary schools in the wider Gros Islet area with seventy-two stu­dents par­tic­i­pat­ing. In the end the 1st place went to Bonne Terre Prepara­tory - a first time win­ner in this 13-year com­pe­ti­tion; 2nd place Grande Riviere, and 3rd place the Montes­sori Cen­tre.

The com­pe­ti­tion is timely as part of Grow Well’s twen­ti­eth an­niver­sary of youth devel­op­ment pro­grammes in the com­mu­nity of Gros Islet.The com­mu­nity of Gros Islet is faced with many chal­lenges, one of which is dis­ad­van­taged youth and youth at risk. Over the past years Grow Well, a non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tion has con­tin­ued to sup­port, nur­ture and en­cour­age vul­ner­a­ble youth through sev­eral ini­tia­tives such as Af­ter School Pro­grammes, Re­me­dial Read­ing Pro­grammes, Arts and Craft classes all aimed at de­vel­op­ing and inspiring youth.

Said Mrs. Colleen New­man, Grow Well Vice Pres­i­dent, in re­ceiv­ing two DL800 smart phones from Dig­i­cel as ma­jor prizes for the com­pe­ti­tion, “We are grate­ful to Dig­i­cel for its an­nual sup­port of ex­cel­lence in ed­u­ca­tion. It is so im­por­tant to in­spire and sup­port our chil­dren and our schools in pur­suit of ex­cel­lence, and Dig­i­cel gets it.”

Dig­i­cel’s Mar­ket­ing Ex­ec­u­tive Louise Vic­tor added “Dig­i­cel rec­og­nizes the im­pact that early ed­u­ca­tional and de­vel­op­men­tal ac­tiv­i­ties like this Pri­mary School Quiz Com­pe­ti­tion can have on our young peo­ple. Dig­i­cel also is cog­nizant of the vul­ner­a­bil­ity of youth and the chal­lenges they face and we ap­plaud or­ga­ni­za­tions like Grow Well who con­tinue to en­sure that they con­trib­ute to al­le­vi­at­ing the prob­lems.”

The par­tic­i­pat­ing schools in­cluded the Gros Islet Pri­mary School, Monchy Com­bined School, Grande Riviere Pri­mary School, Dame Pear­lette Louisy Pri­mary School, the Montes­sori Cen­tre, Bonne Terre Prepara­tory. Stu­dents were re­quired to an­swer over 50 gen­eral knowl­edge ques­tions based on St. Lu­cia’s his­tory, cul­ture and cur­rent events.
