23 SAINT LU­CIANS SE­LECTED TO STUDY AT THE DR. SAL­VADOR AL­LENDE LATIN AMER­I­CAN SCHOOL OF MEDICINE IN VENEZUELA

Twenty-three young Saint Lu­cian stu­dents have been se­lected to study In­te­gral Com­mu­nity Medicine in Venezuela. This was an­nounced by the Vice Pres­i­dent of Schol­ar­ships, Agree­ments and Popular Power of the Grand Mariscal Foun­da­tion of Ay­acu­cho (Fun­day­acu­cho) to the Em­bassy of the Bo­li­var­ian Repub­lic of Venezuela in Cas­tries on March 5. The in­for­ma­tion was trans­mit­ted im­me­di­ately to the suc­cess­ful ap­pli­cants.

The process for Saint Lu­cians be­gan in Au­gust 2014 when the Em­bassy of the Bo­li­var­ian Repub­lic of Venezuela, in co-or­di­na­tion with the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion in Saint Lu­cia, be­gan the process of pro­mo­tion, achiev­ing full par­tic­i­pa­tion with more than fifty ap­pli­cants. The in­ter­view stage was held be­tween the months of Septem­ber and Novem­ber 2014, ac­cord­ing to the reg­u­la­tions of Fun­day­acu­cho.

Venezuela is the head­quar­ters of the Dr. Sal­vador Al­lende Latin Amer­i­can School of Medicine which is home to more than 2,000 stu­dents from 39 coun­tries in Amer­ica, Africa and Asia. Through Fun­day­acu­cho, schol­ar­ships have been awarded to 26,000 stu­dents to pur­sue a de­gree in In­te­gral Com­mu­nity Medicine.

In­te­gral Com­mu­nity Medicine is a pro­gramme that pro­poses to train doc­tors with an el­e­vated so­cial, hu­man­is­tic, eth­i­cal, sci­en­tific and tech­ni­cal com­mit­ment, with di­ag­nos­tic and ther­a­peu­tic com­pe­ten­cies, ca­pa­ble of of­fer­ing in­te­gral med­i­cal at­ten­tion ap­ply­ing the pro­cesses of ad­vo­cacy, heal­ing and re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of the in­di­vid­ual, fam­ily, com­mu­nity and en­vi­ron­ment.

The Em­bassy of the Bo­li­var­ian Repub­lic of Venezuela in Cas­tries will begin an in­ten­sive course in the Span­ish lan­guage in the com­ing days for the schol­ar­ship hold­ers. The classes will be of­fered at the Venezue­lan In­sti­tute for Cul­ture and Co­op­er­a­tion (IVCC) in Cas­tries. The aca­demic ac­tiv­i­ties are ex­pected to begin in June 2015.
