Celebration of World Milk Day
Monday, 1st June is World Milk Day. Since 2001 this special day, which originally was established by the FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization) of the United Nations, has been celebrated annually around the world on the first of June. World Milk Day is celebrated to increase public awareness of milk and milk products as an important nutritional source.
Milk is unique because it is, by nature, one of the most nutritionally complete foods. It provides essential nutrients: proteins, vitamins B2 and B12 and minerals such as calcium. In order to get enough of these nutrients, Health Authorities therefore advise drinking or eating approximately 500 ml of dairy a day. This is the equivalent of three glasses of milk per person per day.
Dutch Lady celebrates World Milk Day in many countries worldwide including Saint Lucia. For the second consecutive year Peter & Company Ltd., local agents for Dutch Lady, will celebrate this day by inviting families and children to the Holland Fun Farm and by spreading the word about the goodness of milk. The celebration will be on the Derek Waltcott Square, Castries on Monday, 1st June from 1pm to 3pm. In the Holland Fun Farm there, children can experience milking a cow and colour or play the spiral game “From Grass to Glass.” A photographer will also be present so that patrons can get their pictures taken with a design of the Holland Fun Farm, to take home as a souvenir from the World Milk Day celebration.
“Milk is an important part of a healthy balanced diet and World Milk Day provides the perfect opportunity to spread the word and to also let children experience where Dutch Lady milk comes from. We have therefore organized a variety of interactive activities for children where they can simultaneously have fun and learn more about the heritage of milk. During the activities patrons can also sample some of our delicious Dutch Lady milk” said Chenelle Bailey, Brand Manager for Dutch Lady milk. Ms. Bailey promises a fun-filled event which will be both enlightening and rewarding.
