PRIME MIN­IS­TER TO AT­TEND OFID SIGN­ING, AND CARICOM HEADS MEET­ING

Prime Min­is­ter and Min­is­ter of Fi­nance, Eco­nomic Af­fairs, Plan­ning and So­cial Se­cu­rity, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. An­thony left the State Fri­day to travel to Vi­enna. There, he will at­tend the Sign­ing Cer­e­mony of a Loan Agree­ment be­tween the Gov­ern­ment of Saint Lu­cia and the OPEC Fund for In­ter­na­tional De­vel­op­ment (OFID).

OFID made a US $18 mil­lion com­mit­ment in De­cem­ber 2014 for the Choc Bay - Gros Islet Road and Sec­ondary Roads Im­prove­ment Pro­ject. Un­der that ini­tia­tive, 27 km of highways and by­ways will be re­ha­bil­i­tated and ex­panded, to bet­ter han­dle the needs of an in­creas­ing vol­ume of traf­fic in the is­land’s north­west cor­ri­dor.

From Vi­enna, Dr. An­thony trav­els to Bar­ba­dos to at­tend the 36th Reg­u­lar Con­fer­ence of Heads of Gov­ern­ment of the Caribbean Com­mu­nity (CARICOM). Un­der the theme “CARICOM: Vi­brant So­ci­eties; Re­silient Economies”, the con­fer­ence will com­mence with an Open­ing Cer­e­mony on Thurs­day July 2.

The Prime Min­is­ter is sched­uled to re­turn to the State on Sun­day, July 5, 2015.

Deputy Prime Min­is­ter and Min­is­ter for In­fra­struc­ture, Port Ser­vices and Trans­port, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, will act as Prime Min­is­ter dur­ing Dr. An­thony’s ab­sence.
