The man­age­ment and own­ers of Caribbean Man­u­fac­tur­ers Lim­ited (CARIMAN LTD) who are based in the USA met with the lead­er­ship of the Na­tional Work­ers Union (NWU) this week. This meet­ing was held at the com­pany’s oper­a­tions in Vieux Fort.

Mr. Mike Ar­cidy, owner; Paul Wil­liams, man­ager; Macar­ius Fanus and Agatha Pal­ton rep­re­sented lo­cal man­age­ment and shop stew­ard Gar­net Fran­cis and Ty­rone May­nard, pres­i­dent gen­eral rep­re­sented the NWU.

Dur­ing the ses­sion, the NWU ex­pressed con­cern with the state of the com­pany’s op­er­a­tion in Vieux Fort. The NWU went on to state that at one time the com­pany em­ployed over one hun­dred and fifty work­ers. To date the num­ber has dwin­dled to an alarm­ing pro­por­tion.

The NWU made an ap­peal to the owner, Mr. Ar­cidy to re­duce on its China/Latin Amer­ica en­gage­ment and con­sider Saint Lu­cia in a more pos­i­tive way.

The NWU also drew to the com­pany’s at­ten­tion the ap­proach­ing date when the cur­rent in­dus­trial agree­ment will ex­pire and that the par­ties should move quickly to put things in place.
