US-BASED CARIMAN OWNERS MEET NWU
The management and owners of Caribbean Manufacturers Limited (CARIMAN LTD) who are based in the USA met with the leadership of the National Workers Union (NWU) this week. This meeting was held at the company’s operations in Vieux Fort.
Mr. Mike Arcidy, owner; Paul Williams, manager; Macarius Fanus and Agatha Palton represented local management and shop steward Garnet Francis and Tyrone Maynard, president general represented the NWU.
During the session, the NWU expressed concern with the state of the company’s operation in Vieux Fort. The NWU went on to state that at one time the company employed over one hundred and fifty workers. To date the number has dwindled to an alarming proportion.
The NWU made an appeal to the owner, Mr. Arcidy to reduce on its China/Latin America engagement and consider Saint Lucia in a more positive way.
The NWU also drew to the company’s attention the approaching date when the current industrial agreement will expire and that the parties should move quickly to put things in place.
